Judy Hennelly Dalton & family in Kilkenny
« on: Friday 23 September 11 02:16 BST (UK) »
I am sifting through probable leads on various Laurence (Lawrence) Daltons
and his family of origin. He emigrated to the USA.  Birth of 1844 fits.  I am seeing Judy Hennelly Dalton and spouse John Dalton appear to be likely parents. I believe that more information about siblings in this family could assist. My understanding is that a Patrick 1846, and a Catherine 1848, were
born subsequently.

The best place to start is with documentation from John's time in the USA - i.e. marriage and death certs etc, to see if you can locate where in Co. Kilkenny he was born and the names of his parents. Once you know the location, and what denomination his family was, you can check to see if  church records are available for the area they lived.

I appreciate your points.  I found a Catholic church where the Laurence, who
I am researching, was married.  But I am unsure of the identity of the fatherand mother  of Laurence.  I have several candidates, with John and Judy looking likely as parents. I have no reason to believe that Laurence's parents came with him to the USA.  I believe my Laurence was born in Ireland and was naturalized circa 1869.

The problem with an 1840s baptism is that not all parishes have records back that far... so there's no guarantee that a baptism record for your Laurence exists. That's why I suggested following up the other sources first..to try to establish some further clues on him to narrow down your search, and possibly help confirm, or rule out, any possible matches you find.

I am not sure if Laurence came as an adult alone to the USA, or a youth in the company of parents.
