Hi

I would suspect that John Miller was made up - my grandfather and his sister, both illegitimate, used a made up/other family name on their marriage certs.

I don't see her on the 1851 as yet, though  :-\

Henry MILLER (b. 1858) marries Margaret BRUNTON (b.1854) on  27/11/1882  St Cuthberts Church, Hebburn

Wasn't Margaret born in 1864 ? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,554111.msg4098888.html#msg4098888
Or have I got the wrong Margaret?

If I have the right Margaret, and she was indeed born in 1864, this looks like her in 1881 - not in Hebburn, but in Newcastle on Tyne.

RG 11/ 5057 / 67 / 13

60, Loraine/Lovaine Place, Newcastle on Tyne

In the household of Sarah Jones, aged 64

Yes, quite right - it is 1864 for birth date of Margaret BRUNTON - sorry

Thanks for all the other info - slowly coming together
I would never have got the HENERY MILLAR 1881 census as Ancestry search seems to look for exact matches and first/surname mismatch gives no chance.

Will get back on Henry & Margaret birth registration when I hear back from Reg Office.

After my find of Thomas and Jane's marriage in 1867, I've been looking through a few lists  lists in Northumberland and Durham. I've finally found Jane and the boys in 1871:

Mackford's Entry, St Andrew, Newcastle
RG10/5089/43/24

Jane Macklagn, mar, 34, charwoman, b. Camperdown
Henry, 12, son, b, North Shields
James, 9, son, b. Newcastle on Tyne

Haven't looked for Thomas separately.

jnu, JenB et al.

I've just received copies of the birth certs for Henry MILLER and Margaret BRANTON and they match the family members I asked about.

Henry was born 1858 at Tynemouth Union Workhouse to Jane MILLER (illegitimate) while Margaret BRUNTON was the child of Peter BRUNTON and Margaret HESLOP.  I assume the Registrar at the time interpreted the scottish pronunciation of BRUNTON as BRANTON.

So all the info you kindly fed my way has paid dividends - I have new-found knowledge of my Great Great Grandparents.

Many thanks for taking the time to help.
