Hello Althea

Thank you so much for posting the link to the amazing photo.  It is the first photo of Mrs Captain Ninnis I have ever seen.  She was born Miss Priscilla Stephens and was the sister of my ancestor.  Captain Ninnis was one of the witnesses on my ancestor's marriage certificate.

Thank you again.
Regards
MPAB

Hi MPAB
pleased you found it
Captain Ninnis was very famous on the Coromandel Goldfields, as you will probably know
Its so nice that they acknowledged the women..so often in those early publications, they emphasised only the men.

Did any of your ancestors come to Thames/coromandel
just asking because I'm always on the hunt to find people to complete pioneer forms for pre 1900 settlers
http://www.thetreasury.org.nz/Resources.htm
half way down page is info on the project that The Treasury in Thames has

Bye

Hi Althea
No, sorry, my ancestors stayed put in Cornwall.  However, a neice (+husband and child) of Priscilla (Stephens) Ninnis came to New Zealand - unfortunately I don't have any further information apart from mention of them in a will (pre 1900) as resident in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Sorry I can't be any help.

Thanks again
MPAB

If you want info on the niece, start a new thread and I'm sure the chatters will be able to find some info for you
Bye

Hello.

For research indexing purposes. They were quite often referred to as "The Founding Fathers" of Auckland. An alternative term to use when researching.

Hello

We have the Old Colonists' Association Register here at Auckland Libraries. The original is kept in Sir George Grey Special Collections on the 2nd Floor of Central City Library.

We also have a microfilmed version in the Central Auckland Research Centre, also on the 2nd Floor of Central City Library.

You can search Index Auckland for the family name you are seeking by putting your name in the quick keyword search box:
http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/dbtw-wpd/localhistory/lhamadv.html

The beauty of this, is when you find the person on the Register, you can click the image of the actual page in the register and download it!
