Diggles - Again! - Driving me dotty!
« on: Friday 07 October 11 20:06 BST (UK) »
Hi  :)

I was so chuffed I thought I was getting somewhere with my Diggles but today's really put the spanner in the works!

Help!

With the help of Barbara and other Rootschatters I've found Thomas Diggle married 23 Aug 1818 to Alice Blinkhorn to be parents of my Nathan Diggle, my gg grandfather who I know all about.

I've not foun d any other Thomas and SAlice who fit, so I'm going with this.

Thomas was born 1799 to Nathan Diggle and Mary Fisher.  I have their marriage at Radcliffe and various children.

Until now I had no birth for Nathan.

After the Rootchat's help I found a birth to an Edward Diggle and some information on the new OPC and familysearch entries.

I was really excited, then I had to leave off for a while.

Starting a new post.

This is jumping!

Hi again!
Problem is, I now think I have two Edwards and not enough Nathans!  ???

Two entries identical apart from the place!  A typing error I thought!

Baptisms: 30 Apr 1775 St John, Bury, Lancashire, England
Nathaniel Diggle - Son of Edward Diggle
Born: 15 Apr 1775
Abode: Heap

Baptisms: 30 Apr 1775 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England
Nathaniel Diggle - Son of Edward Diggle
Born: 15 Apr 1775
Abode: Heap

Hoey : Louth, Dublin, Lancashire,
Diggle: Pendleton Lancashire,
Stickley: Dorset, Lancashire
Bockmann, Boedemann etc Artist, Europe and London

Then I found these!

Baptisms: 21 Jul 1776 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England
Jane Diggle - Daughter of Edward Diggle
Born: 10 Jul 1776
Abode: Heap

Baptisms: 20 Oct 1776 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England
John Diggle - Son of Edward Diggle
Born: 22 Sep 1776
Abode: Birtle

Unless there's something very strange going on, there must be two families!

I have quite a large group ofnchildren and I had actually noticed that the majority of names were not family names.

Now I'm thinking there are two families one at Birtle, one at Heap.

The Birtle ones are more like family names but it's na bit of a quogmire!

Any one either have more information or know where to look for it?

Thank you for persevering!

PS I guess one thing which would be useful to know is: does anyone know where I can get in touch to see the original entries for St John and St Mary to see which is right?

Also, if I could find some Edward Diggle marriages it might help but OI haven't managed it so far!

St. Mary`s Bury image is here:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-159376-742193-95?cc=1788853&wc=10932292

First page, second column and 4th entry down.

I think the confusion is because the records for St. Mary`s Bury also contain the records for St. Johns Chapel.  See image 48.

Wow!

Thank you!  Thank you!

Mo, that's really exciting!

Not only have you sorted out the discrepancy with the two almost identical entries, which only your detailed knowledge could do.

Also, you've really made my day!  I didn't know the Lancashire images were going on now.

Brilliant!  A goog play for this weekend!

I still have to sort out the two families and which one Nathan belongs to - the one at Hea[p is the one without the family names so I really need to look for more info.

Meanwhile, thank you!  Those will keep me out of mischief for a while!

Good night!

Hello,

Are you still active in looking for Diggle connections. My mother was a Diggle and I have recently been prompted to do some work on her family line. I do have some information and noted you interest in the two Edward Diggle names. Father and son, with Nathaniel son of the second Edward.

Would be happy to make contact if you are interested.

Best regards,

Hi
I apologise. I've been moving around and only just saw this reply.

Yes. I'm definitely interested. I'm pretty sure at least one Edward is ours. Nathaniel definitely is.

What is yourlink and your link to a Edward and Nathan and to Diggle?

I can send you an email adddress in a personal message if you like

Nathan is a gggggrandfather and we think Edward is his father. There are otherNathans in the family

Best wishes

Hi again Warren.

Just realised you're in New Zealand so as I'm in Uk and not far away I may have access to things you don't

We have Diggle stuff doors and I may get to some archives too

Let me know if I can look up any thing

Best wishes
