There need not have been any family connection at all with the area. Many people from the Southwark/Bermondsey area were buried in east London cemeteries -- this was quite common. There was huge pressure on burial space in London, and the deceased were buried wherever room could be found.

Thanks Bookbox, you may well be right. It does seem odd though that only this line of my ancestors chose this cemetery. All the other lines as far as i know are at Camberwell or Nunhead.

Please don't rely on family legends or inappropriate deductions from old photos. Have you tracked down marriage certificates for either of the Williams?

Perhaps you could provide a few more details.

Whose wife was Charlotte? Was she married to William senior or junior?

What was William junior's mother's maiden name?

The long-distance burials may have had something to do with the availability of burials plots at the time.

It would really be better to start a new Goodman thread.

Yes i have the certificates and i'll start a new thread on London & Middlesex, thanks. South Londoners buried at Manor Park.
