BOYLAN - Castlepollard (and later Melton Mowbray)
« on: Wednesday 12 October 11 05:33 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am just starting researching Irish records.

ANTHONY BOYLAN b abt 1893....I believe he was born in Castlepollard, Ireland. By 1924 Anthony had moved to Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England where he married and had children. Anthony died in 1956 in Melton Mowbray.

Is there any way I could find out when he came over to England?

Is anyone else researching this line of BOYLAN’s? If so I would love to hear from you  :)

You can narrow down the date a bit with census records- 1901 and 1911 Irish and English ones both available- but Ireland was part of the U.K. and no records were kept of people going from Ireland to England, Scotland and Wales so you'll not get an exact date.

Starting with the 1901 Irish census (it and 1911 are online free) the most likely family is this one-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Westmeath/Kinturk/Townparks___Castlepollard/1777394
The same family (although ages vary from 1901) seem to be here in 1911-

Anthony's marriage certificate should list his father's name and occupation which would confirm if the above are the correct family.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I saw those censuses and did wonder if they were the correct Boylan’s....the names on them do run in the family so I would imagine it is them, thank you for the tip about getting Anthony’s marriage cert to confirm I will do that.

I haven't researched any irish ancestors up to now so i'm still trying to work out what sort of records are available etc....

 :)
