I can't do anything now until next week but I'll check the St Martin's baptism registers for you then.

Hi Cathy- if you are from happy Valley, we may have  met in the past .
I have been doing quite a bit  of reseach on both the Simounds and Gater Family Trees  and if you like to contact me I will give you copy of the CD of What I have. David & Cariol Westerly are planning to visit the Cahhnel Island shortly.
Jean Pierre Simounds born circa  1817 in St Martins , Island Of Guensey- his  parents were John Simounds & Elizabeth Jane Sauvage of the Island of Jersey
We are not sure,  but we believe John Paul [or Jean Pierre]  came out to NSW and came across with two brothers William & James [ born  circa 1816]  driving a mob of sheep from Sydney to Adelaide. John Paul ended up at Willunga  where he met Johanne O'Neill .
James ended up in Parks NSW and died iin Broken Hil in 1902l. Not sure of what happen to William as yet.

Every branch of the family tell the same story of Jean Pieere having a duel over a young lady and the opponent was severly wounded- as duels were banned and also the other family's brother were after Jean, he first fled to England and then migrated out to Aust
Interesting bit is that John Paul was reportably very tall  ie 6'7" and had a very good deep singing voice. His son Peter was the smallest son in the family. Cheers Geoff Chapman (*)

Wondering do u have Jean Pierres actual Birth cert with parents John and Elizabeth Jane Sauvage?
I have uk/aus ancestry and seen a few obvious mistakes on family trees there
Noticed there was a Martha Elizabeth Sauvage born 1844 st Peter Port Guernsey married a Newell here in SA..Maybe it might be an idea trying to follw that line see if connects to Elizabeth Jane Sauvage
Great someone going to channel Islands too, not that easy sometimes to research in oz, tho lotsa stuff on line these days

I checked the St Martin Jersey baptism register and there is no one with the name of Simmounds or anything similar. However as another poster has said there is also a St Martin's parish in Guernsey.

Dear Geoff Chapman, I would love to get a copy of the Simounds family information. My grandmother (Mater-Nanna) was Edith Simounds (from Perlubie) who married Bertie Thompson (from Haslem) in the Streaky Bay area of South Australia. I have been trying to muddle though stuff in Mundia to sort out why Jean Pierre came out to Australia and how he connected to the Sauvage family. And also, i haven't been able to find anything at all for his wife Joanna except County Poor House, County Cork i think. No parents, siblings, etc. If I could possibly get the CD you speak of, or any written information, i would be happy to send what it costs. I am in North Queensland, but was born in SA. cousin Bruce has been doing some research through Ancestry.com. Aunt Daphne also mentioned a Clarke connection in Blight, SA, who was going to do a Simounds family history but i came across that in a very old letter and don't have any further info there. I would love to be able to connect all the dots for Jean Pierre and Joanna. L A Thompson
