POW-Nottingham Camp
« on: Thursday 13 October 11 23:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Could anyone please help?

I don't know if there are any POW records held but if there was how would I find out about my Grandfather who was held in a camp in Nottingham.

I am still trying to find out information about him and his name, I have had information from another relative that he could have been an Italian Prisoner of war who was to marry my Grandmother, the wedding was booked and dresses were made.

I have contacted Nottingham Cathedral about the wedding between 1948-1950 but because it didn't take place for some reason the records would of been destroyed.

I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks.

Hi,

I would suggest that you start by contacting Nottingham Archive, and picking their brains.  They can at least tell you if they have any records. They are very helpful.

Nottingham University Archive is another place you might try, and then Nottingham Angel Row Library, they have local history, and family history, and they are a very help crowd!

But the more information you can provide the better - it will help everyone!

Good luck, and best wishes,

PS I believe ( as told by a resident local to the area) there was a POW camp just outside the village of Cuckney, on the hill there, are the remains of a camp are still visible if you know where to look apparently.
Hutchinson - Nottingham.
Rowland - Nottingham.
Parkin - Co Durham/Nottingham.
Gardiner/Gardner/Gardener - Co Durham.
Drake - Derbyshire/Lincolnshire/Sussex/London?
Leighton - Derbyshire.

That is start of a personal list of resources/references, some just picked up now from the other threads here.

Woudn't it be funny if we were related? Though i guess one pow is not likely to have associated with more than one woman.
