Job STOCK Born Shipham c1821
« on: Friday 14 October 11 00:35 BST (UK) »
Good evening,
I would be very grateful if anyone could give me any information on my g-g-g-grandfather Job Stock, according to the 1851 and 61 census he was born in 1821 in shipham somerset and indeed on the 1861 census he is married and living with his wife Mary ann and son george in shipham.
My problem is i cannot find his birth record anywhere, i have tried the st leonard parish records on-line but he is not listed so i have come to a halt with my research on the stocks. Looking at the info on shipham it looks like the stocks have been there for a long time.
I would love to know who his parents were and go further back, incidentally Job and Mary were married in Axbridge in Jun 1848.
Many thanks for any help  :)
Williams

Pure longshot but I wonder whether he was named after an earlier deceased sibling

A copy of his 1848 marriage cert will give his fathers name

Thanks carole, i stumbled across that record too and wondered exactly the same, seems to be quite a coincidence but just cant understand why he doesnt show up anywhere, maybe they didnt have him baptised ?? I guess to solve this one its time to fork out for the marriage cert  ;D

Thanks for your help

Job STOCK married Mary COTTLE at St Andrews, Congresbury 8 Jun 1848.

Fathers' names Joseph STOCK and George COTTLE both labourers.

Hope you haven't bought the certificate yet!

You're welcome  :)

I guessed the place of marriage from Mary's place of birth in the 1851 census.  Happen to have the parish records on microfiche - I also have Congresbury and Shipham ancestors, think I may well be related to one or two Stocks by marriage too  ;D

Hello there. I'm wondering if these stocks are related to me.

Please see my first post for information of my ggg-grandfather Samuel Stock.
