An interesting thought JM. Hugh was discharged from the army in October 1919 so I suppose it's quite possible. I have absolutely no idea about how to acquire any Australian records!  :)

No apologies for bumping this up!  ;)

Does anyone have any idea where (or indeed if) I can access Hugh's jail records?

I have a dear friend who remembers Hugh Lickess well.  She is the daughter of Frederick Thomas Heath.  Fred and Phillipa Heath accompanied Hugh back to England in 1949.  Hugh stayed in the UK and the Heaths returned to Australia.  Ten years later Hugh sent my friend some money for her wedding present.  She bought some Wedgwood china which she still has.  She married not long after her father died so the Heaths were still in touch with Hugh up until Fred's death in 1959.

Thank you so much for replying Virginia, I was amazed to learn about your friend's connection with Hugh. I am sending you a personal message, Rootschat doesn't allow you to initiate a PM conversation until you've posted a number of times (I think it's four) but I believe you can reply when I initiate it.
