You're right Trish.  In the 1861 census he's aged 20 and his wife is 25.

Yes, Dazey he was lying then also ;D

Valentine may have bit a bit of a lad!
If this was the Valentine that was Anns Father;
He may have had 3 Wives.

1841 Census
Hunley?
Scaleby, Cumberland
HO107/170/1/Scaleby
Valentine LIGHTFOOT, 60, Farmer
Mary, 30
James, 25
Elizabeth HETHERINGTON, 9
All born in County

Valentine Married Mary ESSINGTON 28 Sept 1836, Gretna Green, Scotland
Both of Scalby, Cumberland on Record (both say they are Single)

1851 Census
Halfway House,
East Scaleby, Cumberland
HO107/2428/384/2
Mary LIGHTFOOT, 41, Head, Widow, Cottager, born Scaleby
Sarah Lightfoot, 3mths, Daug, born Scaleby
James Lightfoot, 30, Lodger, Unm, Cattle Dealer, born Crosby

Interestingly there is a Marriage of a Valentine to a SARAH Errington, 25 Dec 1830, Scaleby, Cumberland on the IGI.

Valentine/Mary Christened 2 Sons named Valentine 1837/1843 but the both Died at 1 day and 3-4 weeks (Familysearch.Org)
Valentine seems to have been Buried 09 January 1846, Crosby Upon Edn Cumberland.
Is did mary have Sarah with his Son James???

Trish :)

After finding the following link which confirms the link I just noticed that Joseph/Ann Sewell named a Son Valentine. SOOO slow sometimes ::)

http://www.ancestordocs.co.uk/Cumberland.htm

Right down the bottom of the page under, Lightfoot, Margaret 1880.

Valentine does not Marry til 1875 to a Mary Ann RUTTER and has 2 Children with her that appear on the 1881 Census.

In the 1861 census he's aged 20 and his wife is 25.

In 1871 they were aged 27 and 31!
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Good Morning,

I have just become a member of Roots Chat and have read that you have been researching the Sewell name for many years.
Like yourself I was born a Sewell and am just starting to research the family name.
I have traced my particular line back to James and Mary Sewell c1800 in
Yorkshire and I would like to know if you have any information relating
to the Sewell name in this area.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

Meacha
