Adam Loftus LYNN - Ballarat
« on: Tuesday 18 October 11 21:55 BST (UK) »
Hi Rootschatters,

Looking for information on the gent above who I think went to Australia c1855 (gold rush era) from Ireland. He hailed from Wexford Ireland and his wife Mary Anne Ferres (daughter of Dr Samuel Ferres) was from Larne Co. Antrim, Ireland.

I've come across a few intriguing snippets that mention an Adam Loftus Lynn, Attorney, Ballarat, but havent been able to follow any of these up cos cant access the sites.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Many mentions of an Adam Loftus LYNN, solicitor of Ballarat on:

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home

would appear to be at least 5 daughters.

Edit to add

would appear to be at least 7 daughters, and 1 son, Thomas Keough LYNN.

Hi Leanne,

Amazing! Thanks so much.

Having a bit of difficulty searching on the pages for Adam Loftus Lynn - any hints appreciated! Time for bed now in a wet and cold Belfast. I'll have another go in the morning when I have a clearer head!

Thanks again,

Margaret

From one of my books on Ballarat I have the following snippett for you:

Adam Loftus LYNN born Wexford, Ireland arrived 30 Sept 1850 Sydney, NSW, emigrated per The 'Hudson' aged 55yrs with his wife 8 daughters, 2 sons & servant. He was C of E & a Freemason, married to Marianne FERRES & had 11 children. His brother Henry married Marianne's sister Margaretta.
His main interests were his profession & his religion. He was an officer of the Ballarat hospital, solicitor for the city council, wrote letters about theological matters, secretary, treasuer & trustee of the cemetery.

Their arrival is noted in the newspaper:
