Advice re Barnard Castle cemeteries please
« on: Monday 24 October 11 17:48 BST (UK) »
I am hoping to find burial of SHeldon Longbottom d. 1907 and his parents, buried in Barnard Castle Victoria Road cemetery. Would appreciate advice as to where I can get a plan of the graveyard as I know it is large, having searched there before! (Sheldon was an artist at Linthorpe Pottery earlier in his life).

With thanks

I don't have a plan of the cemetery but have this information from transcribed Monumental Inscriptions

In loving memory of John LONGBOTTOM born 17 Mar 1812 d. 8 Mar 1889 & of Phillis his wife who died 9 Jul 1903 aged 79 yrs. Also of Sheldon their son who died 23 Dec 1907 aged 51 yrs.

In the next grave are James and Elizabeth SHELDON - do you want details of that inscription?

Cheers Nannawilk

Thank you so much for such a prompt and helpful reply.

It will help to have an idea of what we are looking for. And - yes I would be grateful for the inscription of James and Elizabeth Sheldon (who were Phyllis' parents).

Many thanks.

Here you go

In memory of Elizabeth SHELDON of Barnard Castle who d 15 Jun 1861 aged 59 years. Also James SHELDON husband of the above who departed this life 1 Aug 1870 aged 70 years.

These graves are recorded as being in 'South Section across pathway near tree to south wall'.  Whether that's any help or not I can't tell !!!

Cheers
