William Stanley - can't find a death!
« on: Tuesday 25 October 11 22:13 BST (UK) »
Hi

There is a William Stanley in my family tree. He was born around 1823 in Dawley, Shropshire.

I found what I believe to be his baptism on IGI - William Stanley - 25 May 1823, Dawley-Magna. Parents - William and Rebecca.

I know that William married Jane Jones in Wellington, Shropshire in 1845.

I have William in the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records. However, I can't find him form 1871 onwards. Did he die? If so, when? If not, where is he in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census records?

I also don't know when his wife Jane died, as I can't find her in later census records either.
If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, working on the age of Jane on the 1871 Census, have you discounted the death in Dec 1875 Madeley 6a 475 Jane Stanley aged 52?

Hi all,

The death for Jane I have taken as a good possibility for my Jane. Still no luck with William. If Jane died in 1875, then William would have been around 52 years of age. Could he have remarried?

He may well of remarried, especially if he still had youngish children living with him after Janes death.

But I cant see an obvious one, even taken a look on the Welsh 1881 in case he had gone over the border but no luck .

The only thing is, his name would not change if he married? Their was a death in 1874 Madeley of a William aged 60, looked for a William b 1814 in 1871 to accomodate this death, but could not locate one in the vicinity of Madeley, just wondered if whoever reported death "thought" that was how old he was?
