Thanks
I believe the Thomas and Ellen were hid parents and I know there were links to circular avenue
He was born in May 1926 I Believe they were very poor, as he is not showing in his patents house at age 10 do you know if there are any registers for poor or workhouses or industrial schools
I understood Jack and Thomas (his Father were brothers) the two families seem to merge when I have discussed them with contacts in Ireland

His birth is registered as  Edward Joseph Knight (known as Curran)
Dad passed 10 Years ago nut would not reveal why this was I always told him I would find out but I am finding the Irish records scarce and difficult to navigate

Thanks any way TC

Hello TC ,
So Joseph by 1936 would be approx: 10 years.
In the time frame most of the original workhouses [ Poor Houses ]
were demolished in the early in the early 1930's to make way for the Ballina
District Hospital.
There is only the Dispensary that now remains.it bears a plaque for the Workhouse and Two nearby Mass burial  graves.
   have you Joseph's Birth Cert:
If there were any records they would be in the NLI I only know they hold the Achill Orphan  Refuges Records 1849.
I find it sad that your Dad R.I.P. would not reveal all to you.
                                     Lep.

Hello,
he wouldn't show on the Electoral List if that is what you mean - that would be just adults.
Do you have his birth certificate to confirm his parentage?

Hi Tracy,

Hope you're well. I just wondered if you ever found any more details about Joseph Curran?

My grandad, Patrick Curran, was born in Ballina in the early 1920s and had a brother named Joseph. We believe that his surname was originally registered as Knight, too.
