Richard Hampson 1768-1926 and wife Mary Roylance family memorial.  All Saints Church, Runcorn.  Other names are Sarah Hampson – died 27.Nov.1827 age 22.

Mary Hampson -  can’t read any of her details but it could be Mary (Roylance) Hampson as I can read ‘wife’ aged 55  (d/o the above.)

Sarah Hampson – died 27.11.1827 age 22.   This would be Sarah born 1805, daughter of Richard and Mary (Roylance) Hampson.

John – the only things I can read there is ‘son of’.

Mary – This would be Mary Ann Hampson born 1803 as it shows ‘daughter’ and her age at death 80 years.

Kitty – This would be the wife of John born 1813 as it shows her year of death as 1885, age 66,

So - if Charles & Ann are the correct parents for William Hampson, father of John Hampson, we have (from IGI)

Charles Hampson (age 21 batchelor) m Ann Massey 9 Jan 1755 Bowdon
and then baptisms in Bowdon with parents Charles & Ann

Charles Hampson 14 Sep 1760
James Hampson 23 May 1762
Alice Hampson 23 May 1762
John Hampson 13 May 1764
William Hampson 16 Sep 1770
George Hampson 30 May 1773

Charles Hampson Burial 26 Sep 1776 Bowdon

That doesn't quite match what I was expecting, as we know William has a brother Richard. Of course, there are plenty of gaps in the above list where other children could've been born.

There are three additional children.  Sarah Hampson chr 28 Nov 1756:  Anne chr 14 May 1758:  Margaret chr 6 Apr 1765:  All St Mary's Bowdon.

Robert Owen Hampson 1852-1932 & wife Hannah
« Reply #33 on: Tuesday 14 May 13 16:53 BST (UK) »
Hi Frank - oh he was the black sheep of the family and no mistake! Several wives indeed - a couple of them at the same time(!) Is he in your family tree also?

Hannah Hampson nee Whitbread 1848-1882: memorial attached.

Hannah the first wife of Robert Owen Hampson drowned aged 34 - we know not the circumstances.  Robert a Waterman on the barge "Julia"  suggests the canal.  Her memorial, no doubt commissioned by Robert, sends a poignant message from the grave.

I little thought when I left home
My death would run so near
But now the hour for me has come
   No longer to be here
Be warned by my sudden call
   and you for death prepare
For it will come you know not when
   the moment how or where

Frankray - yes we do know the circumstances in which Hannah drowned, it was very sad as she was taking a meal to her husband on his boat in the dock but slipped in the dark, fell in the dock and was drowned.
