Hi All

I have just joined too, and am interested in Nore House and its history.

I think I now live in the 'other' property that was adjacent to Nore House, and which was used as staff quarters when it was an orphanage.  We acquired the building when the developers had finished building on the site having pulled the main house down.

I would love to know more of the history and see any photographs should anyone have any.  My friend actually worked at the orphanage for a while and is looking to see if she has any pictures.

If your enquiries have made any progress that you can share, please get in touch.

Regards.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

And a fellow Possetonian!

You might find something at Portishead Library?
Maybe something by Eve Wigan - a local historian of note?

I can't look myself, as I now live on the Isle of Man. ;D

I remember a building opposite the front door but within the grounds at nore house. I can remember going in that building once and seeing a tombola, crepe paper and other such trimmings. I believe it was used as a store room for such things. Please, please, please has anyone got a picture of that lovely old house? Regards from steve

Hi I have just found this site!! Very interesting to read all comments, I trained as a nursery nurse in the 60s first at Downend Babies Home then when it closed I went with the children to Begbrook House at Fishponds Bristol and finally to Nore House. I have very happy memories of my time there unfortunately have no correspondence with any staff,I do have photos of the house and of some children, the smaller  building was staff quarters, laundry ,pram store and recreation room

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

I notice that Sandy Tebbutt of the Gordano Society is looking for  information on Nore House.
Perhaps you (or anyone with any information) could contact her?

You can't post attachments on a PM! ::)

So, you either do it on the thread, or exchange email addresses (in the PM) and send it that way.

Also remember that the attachment has to be under 500KB in size, and the name of the file must be unique within RootsChat.
