Camolin, Wexford
« on: Thursday 03 November 11 21:03 GMT (UK) »
Can some one please help locate some distant relatives with the surname of Clinch.  Five Clinch brothers served in the Glamorgan Police Force and the Merthyr Tydfil Borough Police Force. I know one sibling namely Michael Clinch was born 21 June 1873 in Camolin, Wexford.  I would appreciate any details of the family.  I don’t know the parents name so I apologise now for the lack of information.

Kind Regards, Roy

Both the 1901 and 1911 Irish census are online-

The LDS database www.familysearch.org has some extracted births and other information and is worth checking.

...

the closest match I can see on the extracted records is a Michael Clinch born 14 Jul 1872 in the registrar's district of Ferns. Ferns is in the registration district of Enniscorthy, and the town of Camolin is about 8km to the north east of this and in the district of Gorey. The only Clinch birth registration I see in this district during the 1870s is a Mary - in 1870

It would be worth trying to locate a marriage cert for Michael, or any of his brothers, as this would give you their father's name and occupation...

Hi Shane
Thanks for replying; I found reference to two others named Clinch in police records namely John Clinch born 1880, Ferns, Camolin, Wexford and a Edward Clinch born 1866, Wexford, both I would think a very good possibilty of being two siblings.  The strange think is all three joined the Glamorgan Force in the mid 1890s and as yet I cannot find any census details.

Hi aghadowey
There is evidence of the brothers being in South Wales in the mid 1890s so I don't expect to find them on the 1901 and 1911 Irish census; still checking Eng & Wales census for sight of them.

You asked for "any details of the family." In the 1911 Irish Census there's a Clinch family in Camolin-
