Mcguinness,Mcginnis..there are quite alot to chose from
« on: Tuesday 15 November 11 15:20 GMT (UK) »
I didn't realise the amount of different spellings of the name there are:-

McGinnis,McGuinness, McGuinnes,McGuiness,McGunnis. Was this a very popular surname in the County Cavan area in the late 20's early 30's?

I started my search looking for an Arthur 'McGuinness' who was born around 1930,s, who was once a soldier at Mullingar in the late 1950,s.

I would appreciate any help or advice as my only information on him is what I have written above.

Kind Regards
Bernie

Have you tried Magennis?  Maginnis?  Miginnis?  And of course all the Mc converted to Mac.

I have a Bridget McGuinness/McGinnis who married Michael Brady and came over from Cavan to Liverpool in the 1840s. Another family member called Michael McGuinness, possibly her brother, appears on record as an informant.

Thank you all for the replies. DNA results are back, so hopefully a match will come of it.

Any helpful details from his death certificate? or marriage certificate? to narrow down correct record?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Don't even have a definite on him. The only thing is he was based in mullingar barracks in 1958. Army can't give records, due to data protection.
