Mary Jane McCarthy
« on: Sunday 20 November 11 04:04 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find information on my great grandmother, who married in Castlemaine, Australia in 1856.  She was from Mitchelstown, Cork and the marriage certificate gives her age as 21, parents William McCarthy, farmer
and Margaret Mahony.  That would put her date of birth about 1835.

Does anyone have access to parish records for that area?  Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Annejp

If your McCarthy family were RC then you could try the pay-website of the Irish Family History Foundation at www.rootsireland.ie  They appear to have transcripts for Mitchelstown parish.

Microfilms of the historic records for most of the RC parishes in Ireland, including Mitchelstown, are available to view in the National Library in Dublin.

Hi Shane,

Yes, they were RC and I will certainly try that website.  Thank you for
your suggestion.

Regards, Anne

Hello Anne
I am also interested in Pacey family of Waikaka/Chatton. I realise that this comes some time after your original posts but if you could confirm receipt of this message I will then post more specific information. (Not sure if I am using this site correctly - I am a newcomer to Rootschat)

Hi Halcyon,  It is a long time since I did this research, and I have a Tree on Ancestry with a lot of detail, a good deal of it thanks to RootsChat!    William and Mary Jane had four children, William Jnr, Charles, Margaret (known as Rose) and John, my grandfather.   William had 7 children, 2 died in infancy, 1 son drowned while fishing, aged 19, another son died at Gallipoli.  Charles had 2.  Margaret died aged 16 and John had 4 children.  William Snr was first a gold miner, then he had a coal mine in Southland.    If you give me an email address I can give you a lot more information.  What is your connection to the Pacey family?
