Young family Shirland
« on: Sunday 20 November 11 17:00 GMT (UK) »
Any information, particularly while she lived at Shirland regarding the family of My Gt. Grandmother Martha Young b.1854, who lived at Shirland, so I've been told.
Married Geo. Roworth of Clay Cross.
I believe her mother was a Martha Haslam b.1826 Chesterfield, sister of James Haslam, M.P.
Thank you!

Thank you sunflower it's certainly filling the gaps. Do you know whether the Young family appeared on any Stretton Census? I've noticed Stretton being mentioned more in connection with the Young family.
Thanks once again for your help.

Bill

Hi Bill

I've looked at the 1841 census for Stretton, but couldn't see any Youngs.

I did find this baptism which may be your Joseph

Joseph Young baptised 26.10 1823 at North Wingfield to Elizabeth Young, abode Clay cross.

There was also another illegitimate child to Elizabeth - Edwin Young 8.8. 1830 abode Clay Cross.

Elizabeth Young married Joseph Cook 28.6. 1837 at North Wingfield.

I found an Joseph Cook & Elizabeth in 1841 at Clay Lane, she was aged 37 and him 32.  They were living next door to a William Young aged 40, Farmer (maybe a connection)
