Morrisons of Dysart/Kirkcaldy
« on: Tuesday 22 November 11 10:05 GMT (UK) »
Whilst I have a relatively comprehensive tree of Morrisons form Dysart and Kirkcaldy, there a a number who simply disappear from the records (ie no marriage or death records). I suspect they have migrated, but to where I have no idea. If you have Morrison relatives from Dysart/Kirkcaldy please get in touch. Alex Morrison

Thanks NorrieG,

I'll give you a full list tomorrow.

In the mean time I was interested in the Cuthill/Morrison inscription. According to the SRO Agnes was born Agnes More Cuthill in Dysart 1901 (426/00 0107). John Morrison was born 26 Oct 1903 in Dysart (426/00 0411).

Agnes More Cuthill died in 1961 (442/00 0031) in Kirkcaldy not 1952 aged 59. John Morrison died in 1966 in Kirkcaldy (442/00 0707).

Just goes to show a picture never lies! There was a John Morrison who died in Kirkcaldy in 1966 and I assumed that would be the John married to Agnes as she died in Kirkcaldy. However, there was also a John Morrison who died in Glenrothes not far away in 1982, and this is obviously the correct John Morrison. Both fitted the age bracket of John who was born in 1903. Unless I went to the expense of ordering hard copies of their death certificates (as on line records are not available after 1910) I chose what I considered the more likely option. A good lesson for genealogists.

As for a number of Morrisons who I have been unable to finalise, the following are their details:
Early family from Dysart David Morrison  (Abt 1740) married to Elizabeth Elder no death date.
Some of their children:
John Morrison (Abt) 1765) no death date,
David Morrison (Abt 1767) no death date, and
Michael Morrison (Abt 1769) no death date.

A few children of James Morrison (Abt 1767, no accurate record of his death but could be 13/10/1839 in Dysart) married to Margaret Ritchie and all born in Dysart:
Robert Morrison (Abt 1799) married to Katherine Wilson 27/5/1816 in Dysart. No record of death.
James Morrison (Abt 1801) could be James Moresson who died in Dysart on 13/10/1839, ie same date as for his father, or both records could be wrong for these "James Morrison/Moresson" (OPR 426/00 0100).
Michael Morrison (Abt 1804) married to Agnes McNeish 5/3/1827, a seaman, died some time between 1841-51?
John Morrison (Abt 1806) married to Jean Kerr 26/1/1825, no further records
Margaret Morrison (Abt 1807), no further records.

On my mother's side, my great great grandfather George Stein Dryden died on 25 May 1902 in Lochgelly. I visited the crematorium in Dunfermline to find his record of burial, but the only entry that could be found was a reference number "297 Bowhill". I would think he would have a paupers grave, but I would like to know where it is.

I look forward to see if you can throw any light on these,

Cheers,

Alex Morrison.

Dear Norrie,
Just a few things:
1. what is an Igi?
2. what is a "sumitted entry"?, and
3. I will be back in Fife some time in September next year, where do I find you to buy you a pint or two?
The entry for John Stein Dryden (the son of George Stein Dryden who I believe is burried at Bowhill) and Frances are my maternal grandparents.
Best Wishes,
Alex.

Just a few things:
1. what is an Igi? International Genealogical Index
Family historians have found the International Genealogical Index to be one of the most useful finding aids produced in recent years. This is a collection of Genealogical data produced by The Church of the Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ, Salt Lake City, USA (also known as the Mormons).
They compuertised church parish records

what is a "sumitted entry"?,
The IGI is best for pre-1875 data, though data entries exist for later dates, submitted by individuals. Members of the Mormon church who have submitted
Their research
The entry for John Stein Dryden (the son of George Stein Dryden who I believe is buried at Bowhill) and Frances are my maternal grandparents.
The headstone is from Falkland Cemetery, I have included a
