Ah - if there is a link to the Witney Lane Hobleys then definitely that's him. I can't find him prior to that (you must have better resources :D) but Charles Goodrich and Lucy appear at various addresses in Witney Lane and Witney Road (rather confusing, but I am wondering if they owned a series of properties). In fact in 1891 you can find Lucy living with some of the grandchildren at 64 Witney Lane, while Charles Goodrich and Emma are at 65 with the rest of their children!

I take your point about ages needing a grain of salt, but sometimes with a couple of candidates it's tough to choose who to follow up as I'm sure you know. I didn't know there was a Hobley Lane in Banbury, it would be good to know if there was a connection. Likewise with the numerous Warwickshire Hobleys (I have some indications that that is a branch in the tree as well). Thanks again for taking the time to throw some light on this corner - greatly appreciated.

And this rather sad story shows how Charles died.  :(
