I started this post in 2011 and have done very little follow up on Richard McGuirk. Louise through this site advised that Richard was from Glendalough and so now that the registers are on line I have had a look. Unfortunately Louise never made further contact so I don't know what she unearthed.

Found marriage Richard McGuirk and Sarah Byrne 22 November 1830.
Baptism of Peter McGuirk (possibly the soldier I found in the grave at Deansgrange) 1 August 1831.
I also found the birth of John McGuirk 20 September 1835, Richard McGuirk 21 January 1843 and Elizabeth McGuirk 27 December 1846.

Took a leap of faith and found a marriage between a John McGuirk and Martha Byrne 12 June 1854 and their son James McGuirk 21 September 1866. These may not be related but, I got so excited thinking that i may have relations somewhere that I am making leaps of faith.

Would my next best thing be to get a marriage cert for John and Martha to see if his father is the same Richard?
