DNA Testing
« on: Saturday 03 December 11 00:22 GMT (UK) »
Is there anybody on this forum with the last Walsh from County Waterford who have had their DNA testing done? I'm a Walsh from Newfoundland (Talamh an Eisc) whose ancestors are from County Waterford and am having DNA testing done and looking for possible links to Waterford: if so, please contact me.

I presume that you already know that Walsh is one of the most common surnames in the south east, and particularly Co. Waterford, so you could find it quite difficult to narrow your list down to just your own Walsh lines.

For reference the surname is pronounced Welsh in much of Co. Waterford.

Thanks for your reply, Shane. I am fully aware of tracking my particular Walsh family but I have resolved those difficulties. Where I come from my name was pronounced Welsh. When my daughter was visiting Ireland she was told that she would seem "posh" if she told people her name was Walsh and not Welsh.
