Have  an ANN SHERRATT in the 1861 census living in Mow Cop Staffordshire, her birth place being transcribed as WILHESLAM THON YORKSHIRE,anybody any ideas where this is .

Hey.
I'm not sure if this is any use, but could it be Withersea? Or Withernwick? They were both places in the East riding of Yorkshire. There are some strange transcriptions going round! I've come across a few puzzling ones on my travels too!

I have done a string search through the GENUKI file (yorksplaces.txt) but nothing stands out. Is there any chance of you posting an extract from the original image? There are lots of people on Rootschat who are really good at working out what the writing says.

I have got a jpg image of part of the entry (off Ancestry.com).  How do I post it on the message board?  Have tried copy/paste without success
