Hi

If she only died in 2007 - somebody in the family should have a copy of her death cert.  It will give her full date of birth on it and also her place of birth

If not - I would definitely buy a copy of the 1938 marriage cert to get her age at that time and her fathers name

Hi Alan

Thanks for the replies.  Yes Leslie James Bowley was Gladys Youngs husband, they married on 26 Dec 1938 and as far as I know it was in a church.  I also have Leslie James on the 1911 census so know his parents were Harry & Elizabeth.  I'm pretty certain that Gladys & Leslie were married in a church on Christchurch Rd nr the top of Southampton Street.

Even though the Parkins maiden name for Gladys's mother seems a strong possibility, the other suggestion you have come up with Mary Ann Young & Frank Clifford is interesting as my partner is called Clifford (first name).  May have to investigate that a bit further.

Regards
Louise

Thanks Alan

I've just spoken to the registry office at Yeomanry House where I can get a copy of the marriage and death certificate for £12.00 in person or £9.00 over the phone.  I can't believe the price difference, I've just paid £22.99 each for 2 certificates I ordered via Ancestry.  Thanks for your help.

Regards
Louise

Hello,
You can order any certificate online direct from the GRO https://www.gro.gov.uk/ and the most it will cost you is £9.25 each for the ordinary service. 24 hour delivery service is £23.40.  Anyone else who is charging more is ripping you off.

Hi Vicwinnan

Thanks for the info, have just ordered my certificates from GRO.  Thankfully I've only ordered 2 from Ancestry to date.

Best regards
Louise
