maria cowans johnson.I cant find her in the 1901 census.in 1891 she's living in brandon durham as maria johnstone.her mother sarah ann tinkler is living in gateshead in 1901.but maria isin't their?I cant find a marriage before that date.

in the 1871 census she was living in coundon.1881 she appears as maria tinkler in kimblesworth.her full name is maria cowans johnson.their is a family myth that she worked in the circus.

Is her mothers name definitely Sarah Ann? There is a marriage on FreeBMD for William tinkler to Sarah Ellen Johnson in Qtr Jun 1876,  and the 1881 census has Sarah E as well - or do I have the wrong census ref: RG11   Piece:4956    Folio:129   Page:39

I think this is her mother, as there is a  Sarah Ellen Cowens married Samuel Johnson qtr Jun 1860  Auckland 10a 192

yes her father is samuel johnson he died 1871.and her mother m. w. tinkler.1876.her mother gave her first 3 children the middle name cowans.
