Acer laptop/netbook chargers
« on: Wednesday 07 December 11 12:24 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone  :)

I use an Acer Aspire One small netbook and my charger/lead must have a faulty connection because it has begun to work intermittently.
I have just charged the netbook using the charger from a full size Acer laptop. This adapter is bigger than the one for the AspireOne.
My question is  - will this make any difference or harm my little netbook?

thanks
heywood

If you look on the bottom of both chargers you should find (no doubt in miniscule print!) some reference to "Output: x V" y A". The input, which is likely to be also mentioned, will refer to 230-250V (or maybe even 110-250V) and that is the mains side of things.

As long as the output numbers on the bigger charger are the same as on the faulty one you shouldn't have any problems. I would suspect they might be different. If that is the case list both of them for comparison and I will ask hubby - who works in electronics and thus actually understands these things  ;D

Thanks for the reply.

The input is as you say.

Output on the bigger charger says 19v --3.42A  but on smaller charger 19v- 1.58A
by the looks of it.
Think I will buy another one just to make sure.

thanks again

No problem using larger charger.
As long as output is not lower (would cause charger to fail) 19v @ 3.42A o'k.

Yup hubby agrees too  :) The suspicious soul phoned to ask what I was tinkering with rather than just replying to my email query.... he doesn't trust me playing with his 'wires'. I can't imagine why, I haven't blown anything up - yet ;D ;D ;D
