Christina & Agnes Stapleton
« on: Wednesday 07 December 11 19:48 GMT (UK) »
My great grandmother, Christina Stapleton, was born in Jersey in Dec 1849, Trinity Parish and the birth cert gives her parents, David & Christina, residence as Vingtaine du Rondin.
David Stapleton was Quarter Master in the Royal Navy.
When they married David's residence was Woolwich.
Would he have been posted to Jersey in the Navy ??

What I am trying to find is the birth of their second daughter, Agnes Mellicent Stapleton, about 1851, and I was wondering if she was born in Jersey too.
I would appreciate any help at all !  Many thanks in advance

Where did this family go after leaving the Channel Islands as they do not appear on any UK census

Hi Liz

There is an old thread on Rootsweb - Mariners 2002-08, which I think is your man. If it is then there is a Service Record for him in the ADM 196 - Officers Service Record on the National Archives Website.

There is a tree on Ancestry showing Agnes as Mellacent Agnes BlennerHassett Stapleton

Parents David 1807- 1854 and Christina Magill 1820-1869

Unfortunately - no birthplace shown for her

There is also this thread which incorrectly shows Christina's birthplace as Ireland and also shows Agnes born Ireland

And from a reply to your own post on http://genforum.genealogy.com/johnston/messages/5551.html

Henry Maturin Johnston MD who married Mellacent Agnes Blennerhassett Stapleton ( my g.grandparents)

Is this relative not able to provide any info as to her birthplace

Many thanks to everyone for your help...  My cousin Sally has tried to find birth of Mellicent Agnes STapleton too, but we have no confirmation at all that she was born in Ireland, and it is difficult to research Irish records, there are so many missing !
Father David STapleton died in Tralee, Co Kerry a few years later but I don't know where they were posted to after Jersey.

Happy Christmas to everyone !

You may well have the following information, but there are a couple of records on The National Archives website relating to David Stapleton.

One is under reference ADM 196/76 David Stapleton, Paymaster (this document dated December 1847), and there is also ADM 45/32/792 David Stapleton, Paymaster who died 17/1/1854, Will attached.

There is a small fee to download this data from the National Archives, but it would be well worthwhile to obtain the Naval Record of David Stapleton to ascertain dates and places.

His Burial on 20/1/1854  on 20/1/1854, aged 44 years is recorded at
Parish/Church/Congregation - BALLYMACELLIGOTT
Area - KERRY (COI)

Burial of Christina Stapleton on 11/7/1869 aged 49 years at the same location.

Both are described as "of Tralee"
This from the website Churchrecords.IrishGenealogy.ie

Just a thought.
