Did Florence marry John F HANNA in 1930? If so this looks like her death cert. info,

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0ikr/

which gives her parent's names as Joseph and Florence. Do you have either of the certificates?

I found this death and will info,

Joseph YATES    Mar Q 1932    Romford    4a  724
Age: 65

YATES Joseph of 32 St Johns Road Barking Essex died 30 March 1932. Probate London 18 May to Emma YATES widow. Effects £1008  8s. 1d.

This address fits the passenger list, but who is Emma, a second wife perhaps? Or could the death info be incorrect?

We aren't allowed to do 1911 census transcriptions here because of copyright. I can find the family at Ancestry but I can't seem to find them by name, address or piece number at Findmypast ??? the Garford Street you mention seems to be in Poplar not Barking. Joseph seems to be married to Emma.

This looks like the family in 1901, at the same address but although the image does show Joseph to be 24 I think he should be 34 as he is 44 in 1911,

RG13/355  f.154  p.45  Poplar
69 Garford St

Joseph YATES    Head    24    Blacksmiths Hammerman    Limehouse
Emma                Wife    31                                        Stepney
Emma               Daur     2                                              "

Checking Emma's birth on FreeBMD shows she was registered in Stepney District. There is a birth for Florence Yates registered in the Sept quarter 1904, so perhaps she didn't lie about her age  ;D

Apologies for delay in replying...computer issues. Florence's parents were def Joseph & Emma. I will blame my Aunty B..I'm pretty sure she would have supplied details when Nan died. Another Aunt has confirmed Josep & Sarah is correct & it matches other doc's. You are like a detective  8)

I am also looking for information on passengers on the SS Vedic. My Grandmother came to Australia on the SS Vedic with the Salvation Army. I am finding it hard to determine when she left England, and when she arrived in Sydney. I think she left on the 17th Dec 1926 but  not sure if that is correct and do not know when she arrived in Sydney. Her name was Sybil Knight. aged 19 years at the time she left England.
Any help would be great
Jackie

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.
You are correct with the sailing date from London. Your Grandmother is listed as a "Domestic" contract passenger number 711, He last address is somewhat smudged but looks like 35 Portland Street?

I understand VEDIC arrived Sydney NSW Thursday 4/Feb/1927.

Jackie, if you haven't already seen it, the file for that journey of the Vedic is here:

http://soda.naa.gov.au/record/467911/1

Sybil is listed on page 21 as a Canberra Domestic.

The reports of the Welfare Officer and Matron are always interesting reading.

"Passengers and Stewards will talk to girls, and unless one takes a very firm stand from the beginning it would be a hopeless task to expect discipline."

Imagine having to go for that long onboard a ship without talking to anyone except the other girls  :P

Thank you all for your help. My Grandmother's first assignment was at a house in Mt Stromlow in Canberra. She was a little unsure about dates when i asked her a few years before she died.
