Bradbury, Woore, Cheshire
« on: Thursday 08 December 11 17:44 GMT (UK) »
On the 1841 Census, my ggg grandfather, William Preston Bradsbury, was an Hotel keeper at an address The Parsonage, Woore, Cheshire. Can anyone tell me where this property would be - that's if it still exists. Thanks.

Hi,

the only Woore I know is just over the border in Shropshire; if you check out     http://www.historicaldirectories.org

an 1851 Shropshire directory has a William P Bradbury farmer and victualler Swan Hotel  listed (image 302) - in Woore

In the 1841 Census there is a William Bradberry, Hotel Keeper, in the civil parish of Muckleston, township of Woore, county Shropshire. The address is not The Parsonage, that is the entry above, the enumerator has put 'do' i.e. ditto meaning Woore, as shown on the next page.

As junev says in the 1851 Directory he is at the Swan Hotel, http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/

You can see The Swan at http://www.rootschat.com/links/0i6u/  Google Street View.

Thank you both so much for your help, that is the person I'm researching. In fact, I visited The Swan some years ago before I began my family research and didn't realise my family connection. Also one of William's daughters was born at Muckleston so it all ties in nicely. What a smashing site, and what helpful people you are. Thanks again.
