Maccabee family/Newbury
« on: Thursday 15 December 11 23:32 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any info on the Maccabees who lived in/around Newbury? My cousin's grandmother was Mary Leonora Maccabee, daughter of Samuel, a painter who lived in Speenhampstead. He was married to Elizabeth,(I think)and they may have had another daughter,Beatrice Ellen. Mary was born approx 1879,and married Bertie Sandel Brice at Newbury in 1905

Can you clarify exactly what type of information you are looking for?

Have you looked for the family on the 1881 census which is free to search at

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

That entry shows his wife was Elizabeth and you are fortunate as his father and sister were living with the family which will help you if you are researching Samuel's ancestry

You will find his marriage on freebmd in 1878 to Elizabeth Haines

These are the census reference numbers which appear on all entries.  It is useful for tracing entries

When I enter details onto my Family Tree Maker software - I use the notes facility to record the census reference numbers
