Philadelphia Marchant was christened 21 May 1811 Streat d/o Richard Marchant and Emma
we have her on the 1841 census with her mother Emma
Next door to her brother Richard
Emma then dies in 1843  & Philadelphia Marchant marries John Marchant  31 Jan 1844 at Laughton
then at St Jonhs church in Ripe they had the following children christened
John 7 April 1845
Richard 10 May 1847
Emma 30 March 1849
William 23 Sept 1851
on each entry John Cane was a farmer _ this is confirmed by the census
we have the 1851 census with the extended family members one of whom is Emma Beard so either Emma Cane (is there an Emma Cane)  or Emma Marchant marries John Beard
then in1861 John & Philadelphia are in ripe with their children and also Philadelphias sister Elizabeth Dennet Marchant who is unmarried (where does the Dennet name come from?)
we have the 1871 census for John & Philadelphia

i dont seem to have 1881 or 1891

but Philadelphia was buried aged 80 on 28 Jan 1892 at Ripe

William Cane & Ann nee Cruttenden seemed to have 4 children christened in Ripe

Ann 1 Dec 1803 - died 1849 i think
William 16 Aug 1805
Edward 31 July 1807
John  1 Apr 1809
Matthias 25 July 1813

now i found Ann and Edward together but not together on one of the census but i cannot find William or Ann senior so assume they must have died pre 1841 making it difficult to get back further.

a burial that might be of interest is ANn Cane  aged 68 years 2 Feb 1837 Ripe St John

i then found a christening of Ann Cruttenden 23 May 1768 also at Ripe to John and Ann

i need someone with an SMI to be able to find the marriage of John Cruttenden and Ann

they had a number of children at Ripe

** John  1 Apr 1809 married Philadelphia Marchant 1844 **

William Cane (of Fletching) was buried at ripe on 23 Aug 1837 aged 62 years
ANn Cane aged 68 years was buried 2 Feb 1837 Ripe St John

Philadelphia Marchant was christened 21 May. 1811 Streat the child of Richard Marchant and Emma nee Brooker

Other Children of Richard & Emma christened at Streat :
Richard 5 Dec 1795
Eliz Dennet Marchant 29 Sept 1809
Emma 23 Jan 1798 marries John Beard

Emmy Brooker was christened 24 Sept 1775 Wivelsfield the daughter of John Brooker and Jane nee Carter who were married in 1763 in Wivelsfield
Her siblings christened at Wivelsfield were :
Thomas 17 March 1765

George 16 Sept 1770
Jane 14 March 1773

There is a child christened 10 Jan 1813 in Wivelsfield Emmy Wood Brooker she was illegitimate and her mother is given as Emmy Brooker which has confused me as our Emmy Brooker was by then married to Richard Marchant and living in Streat, however the christening of Emmy Brooker (1775) in Wivelsfield ties in with the age at marriage, 1841 census and burial of Emma Marchant nee Brooker and we also know that her mother is Jane, who by 1795 was a widow.  So who is Emmy Wood Brooker b. 1812/1813

Emma Marchant nee Brooker was buried on 31 May 1843 at Streat her residence at the time was Laughton she was aged 67 years
which matches exactly the age (65) and address on the 1841 census where she is living with her daughter Philadelphia next door to her [Emma’s] son Richard.

John Cane married Philadelphia Marchant 31 Jan 1844 Laughton
Children christened at St Jonhs church in Ripe

William 23 Sept 1851
on each entry John Cane, father was a farmer this is confirmed by the census.

Philadelphia was buried aged 80 on 28 Jan 1892 at Ripe.
