Hi All,

I'm banging my head against a brick wall here!

In 1881 I have Joseph Edge (28) married to Nancy Jane Edge (27), born in Chorley and Hindley respectively.  As well as thei children, there is an Elizabeth Baxendale (24) recorded as sister.  I presumed that Elizabeth is Nancy's sister and went on to try and find them in 1871.

The 1871 Census I can find of a Nancy Jane and an Elizabeth Baxendale is as follows:
John Platt (63) - Head
Ann Platt (64) - Wife
Jas Platt (27) - Son
Elizabeth Platt (5) - Daughter
Nancy Jane Bexendale (17) - Grand daughter
Elizabeth Baxendale (14) - Grand daughter

To me, that says that for whatever reason Nancy and Elizabeth live with their mothers parents, hence their mother maiden name must be Platt.

I am really struggling to find anything for the family (either Baxendale or Platt) in 1861.

I think I've got myself in a muddle and can't see the wood for the trees!  If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it!

I've found some records for Richard and Sarah now, but can't see any record of Nancy...

Nancy could be a nickname Sunday name,
