The second word isn't Hamraze. The original shows Hamoaze, which is the name for part of the River Tamar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamoaze
The first letter 'M' looks like 'In' to me.

Hello,

The Hamoaze is the part of the Tamar which flows past Devonport Naval Dockyard.

His birthplace in 1871 is Hamoze, and that of his wife Devonport.

I was sure that there have been searches for Reardon (variations) in Coast Guard service and looking them up-- it was you  :)

I was going to say that there is a John Reardon b abt 1828 son of John, but he is born Ireland (1841 in Cornwall) but at least one sibling is born Devonport. :-\

You probably have all this information. I suppose a marriage certificate for John and Emma would give his father's name.

regards

The marriage certificate dated 19 November 1850 (Stoke Damerel Parish Church) states that John REARDON aged 26, bachelor, mariner of HM Bellerophon (the ship upon which Napoleon was transported in 1815); son of John REARDON, mariner married Emma CLAYTON, widow, of 29 Mount St., father William ALLEN, shoemaker. Witnesses William ALLEN and John SYMONS.
He wasn't baptised in the Church of England in Devon - possibly he was Roman Catholic?
