 but I can find nothing on her father John Peterkin b 1805 in McDuff.

John Peterkin died in 1867, Banff

15 Jan 1867 Gellymill (?)  Street, Macduff. Heckler, aged 62 years and 7 months. Married to Jane Fairweather
Parents - James Peterkin, Heckler, deceased and Margaret, m.s. Carny, deceased.
Informant - Jane Milne, nurse, present.

Gamrie and Macduff
8 Feb 1790 James to James Peterkin and Margt Delgardno?
25 Jan 1792 James to James Peterkin and Margt Carno
18 April 1794 Isobel to James Peterkin and Margt Cardno
22 October 1796 William to Jas Peterkin and Margt Carno
25 Aug 1798 Margaret to Jas Peterkin and Margt Carne
10 May 1800 Katherine to Jas Peterkin and Margt Carne

I'm not sure why John isn't there.  Margaret's surname does change a wee bit!

For information:

A Heckler or Hackler  was a  flax dresser
