"Cornal" Flett Researchers
« on: Friday 30 December 11 15:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for anyone researching the Flett family, under the tee name "Cornal"

I'm mainly looking for those who have researched the family of Alexander Flett and Catherine Clark. I've found nearly everything I actually need, but there are some people I could not find information on.

Alexander and Catherine had 11 children:
-Alexander (died as infant)
-William (died as infant)
-Margaret Flett (died in 1941) married John Mair
-William Flett (died in Australia) married Helen Flett - Only have births of children & marriages
-Mary Jane Flett ?
-Catherine Flett (died in 1926) married James Flett
-Helen Flett (died in 1935) married John Flett
-Ann Flett (died as infant)
-Simon Flett (died as infant)
-Jessie Ann Flett (died in 1955) married John Flett
-David Flett (died in 1965) married 1 - Jeanie Greig and 2 - Nelly Campbell (David and Nellie are my direct line)

The main people I am focusing on are William and his wife Helen, and Mary Jane Flett. I have Helen and William's births, I was told William died in 1952, but I'm not sure. I know they moved to Australia. I got their marriage & all of their children, but nothing afterwards. As for Mary Jane Flett, she is a mystery. I think she may have left the country. She was in the 1881 census with her family but not the 1891 census, so she could have emigrated.

Any others researching this family are welcome to share information and I will do the same.

If anyone has any information on William&Helen and Mary Jane Flett I would be grateful, as I can't find any.

Greg

Forgot to add!

Mary Jane Flett was born 23rd May 1864 at Findochty
William Flett was born 1 July 1862 at Findochty
Helen Flett was born 5 April 1866 to David Flett and Ann Crawford at Findochty (I think) She has been called Helen Crawford Flett before, so this must be her birth

The births normally do help.

Ok I'm researching the same line and live in Australia.
Maybe we can help each other.

Hello,

May I ask how you are related to the Flett family? I know William and Helen, who died in Australia, moved there with all of their children - are you a relation to them, and if so, how?

Thank you for replying,

Greg

Hi,
I'm related to George Flett  b.1841 his father was Alexander "Cornal" Flett b. 1802.
Alexander was the first to use "Cornal" as a tee name. George came to Australia he married a Fanny Gyles and they lived in Williamstown Victoria! therefore Alexander "Cornal" is my GGG Grandfather.
I am madly looking for the two u mentioned in your previous entry, but cannot find a William round about the date u mention but I can see a John who married a Helen? Where in Australia did your William and Helen settle????

Cheers,

Fran :D

Hi,

I've found them and actually have them in my tree, George moved out to Australia and died in 1919 at 3 Yarra Street in Newport, his wife died there in 1911, though I couldn't find any children. Would you be able to tell me who their children are, and what one is your direct line?

Thank You,

Greg

I'am still working on all the children so far there were about 16 so far!, many of the birth certs are unavailable but have managed to obtain  some christening certs.
George Flett m Fanny Gyles in 1875 Horsham Victoria.
Children
Clara b.1872 b.1877
Anne Jane b.1875
George b.1876 d.1876
James Ford b.1877 d.1934 (my line)
George b.1877 d.1956
Alice Winafred b.1881 d.1958
Frances b.1882 d.1882
Jane Forde b.1979 d.1913
Female b.1883 d.1883
Fanny b.1884 d.1864
John Gyles b.1886
Alexander b.1887
Maggie Helen b.1890 d.1944
Ruby Elise b.1892
Mary Frances b.1901
Annie Jane (not sure could be Anne Jane but did find entry)

Most of the one who survived childhood went on to marry and all lived nearby in the Williamstown area where my own Grandmother lived. It is interesting as Williamstown is on a bigger scale but use to be much like Finnichty in its hay day big fishing town back when, now it's a very trendy area very expensive to buy a house there! So this is just a bit on my Fighting Flett's ha ha!

Did u ever find the Flett Cornal cottage in Finnichty ???
Think I'm on to it ;D ;D ;D

Cheers,

Fran
