Do you know this stone cross
« on: Sunday 01 January 12 00:48 GMT (UK) »
My father took this photo and on the back wrote Entrance to lane where the house he was born in stood.

I know they lived in or near Duleek but I'd love to find the lane on Google maps can you help please?

it looks like the Gaulstown Cross, aka White Cross

 see : link

haven't found it on the map yet - looks like it should be somewhere to the south west of Duleek, between the R152 and R150..

found it... this google street view is from the more major road. Your photo is from the other side up the cul de sac.

   Gaulstown Cross

The Cross is labelled on the old OSI maps in the east of Gaulstown Townland - White's Cross on both the c1840s map 6 inch, and the c1890 25" map. See White's Cross/Gaulstown townland

That is excellent Shane thanks, I bet the church will be easy to find now.
Makes sense to me now as on an old V8 tape my father visited Gaulstown house, saying my grandfather worked for the family that owned it at the time.
I can't view the tape anymore and couldn't remember the name of the house until I saw it in your post
I just need to sit down and do at bit of map searching.
Thank you so much.

The townland of Gaulstown is split between two civil parishes - the western section is in Duleek to the north and the rest in Timoole.

Duleek RC parish includes the civil parish of the same name, along with 3 other civil parishes. Timoole civil parish is included in the RC parish of Beauparc.

There are two other townlands somewhere in Meath also named Gaulstown.

Duleek parish church is in the town, and the church for Beauparc parish is apparently in the townland of  Seneschalstown, which is to the north of Kentstown.

That was fun, I've got some nice images.
I think the house he showed on the tape wasn't Gaulstown house but a large house in Gaulstown.
Haven't found the church yet but not to worry I'll get there in time.

Thanks for all the help.
