McPhillamy on 1911 census
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 20:48 GMT (UK) »
I am trying hard to find some family members who I know were alive in Scotland in 1911 and have had no luck with Scotlands people despite searching since April. Their name can be spelt in many ways but even trying soundex and other variants I have had no success.

They are Henry Mcphillamy (born 1855 ish), Rosina McPhillamy, (1865) their children Maggie (margaret), Armour, Kate (katherine). Henry died in the poorhouse in Govan in 1913 and the record for him entering the poorhouse has all of them in Scotland, Govan around 1913 but I cannot find them anywhere in 1911. Their son Henry may have been in the army as we have found a Henry about the right age on the 1911 military census.

I would be so grateful for any help as its costing me a fortune on Scotland's people!!

Like you I can't see them on the 1911 census but I see Alexander and Armour's marriages in 1919

Also several death certs on Scotland's People for the names listed and what looks very like descendants of those too e.g.  Armours, Rosinas.

But 1911 - no joy  :(

Hi there-thanks all for looking.  I do seem to be able to find info about them after 1911 but no joy on the census anywhere yet.

Will be glad if anyone comes up with anything else.

I have been told there is a possibility they may have gone - been sent to Australia but cant find any evidence of that yet.
Still trying!

 ???

Hi I don't think i have come across that one- its a possible but the Armour I am looking for should be about 23 in 1911 but it may be worth a look. Does it give place of birth or an trade or occupation? Are there any other names with him? Or have you just come across it in the searches?

Hi Sue,
I found the entry by using the "free search" method but I didn't pay to view the actual record.

There does not appear to be a second person on this record, I used a wildcard search and nothing is returned.

Ages are often out in census, and I'd say that 23 - 27 is close enough for a punt  ;)

Good luck
Jim

edit ... There is only one McPhillan in Falkirk, so looks like Armour is living alone.

There was an Armour McPhillamey in WW1 service papers, living in Springburn Glasgow by the time of his discharge in 1919, who gave his last employer's address in Falkirk. The notes are medical history (17 pages) rather than attestment papers.

Might fit in with what Jim has found in 1911?

Monica

Added: Shows as age 30, but not clear when  ??? Possibly around the time of discharge 1918-19?
