I read another post lastnight re Irish roots which mentioned that sometimes boys can be the sponsors or witnesses for baptisms .... perhaps this is the Thomas who was Kate and James McKenzie's first born? 

There was another Thomas McKenzie in the dublin church records about this time who was noted as father on his childs baptism, I had thought he could be a brother of James McKenzie, but parentage was different
