Hi there
I am new to this forum but I have lots of ancestors in the Newcastle & Northumberland area.

My ancestors consist mainly of GRIEVES and STEWART.

Please let me know if these names are in your research too and maybe we can share info?

thanks

Hi

I have STEWARTs from Newcastle upon Tyne in my tree, perpetuated in my fathers middle name.

My earliest STEWART, Charles worked on the Quayside at the Customs House as a tide waiter.

Non-Conformists, from Scotland I think in the mid 1700's, havent got back further than that.

Hi my earliest STEWART is Robert Stewart who married in 1845 - he was a slater by profession according to his son's birth cert. His son CHARLES STEWART was born October 10th 1846 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Any connections so far?
thanks
Jo

I have two Robert STEWARTs in my tree around that time, in Newcastle. One died unmarried and the other was born about 1819, son of Charles STEWART. Was on the 1841 census living with parents Charles and Catherine. Not with them on the 1851 census. So died, moved out or married and wandered off?

In 1841 he was a "smith" according to census but that doesnt stop him being a slater later on?

Sounds like we might have a match?

Charles STEWART m. Catherine BROWN 17 Dec 1809 @ All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Had 10 children by one wife. Robert was number 4, b. about 1819, brother of my ancestor Hannah. I know nothing more about him, except his grandparents were POSSIBLY Charles and Eleanor STEWART from Montrose, Scotland. THAT'S where things get murky despite on-location sleuthing for many years.

Baptisms very thin on the ground for this family, suspect Scottish Presbyterian, will know more(maybe) when I get back to Newcastle later this year.
