Death & Migration - Leonard/Timothy O'GARA
« on: Saturday 07 January 12 10:17 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a Leonard O'Gara born in Ireland and died in Australia. He was offered a free discharge from the British Navy in about 1963 after 19 years service this is when he went to Australia. The last known place I know he lived was Childers, Queensland in 1992. Also while living in Australia he went by the name Timothy.

I have a newspaper cutting from 6th March 1992 Isis Town & Contry about him heading to Bandaberg to do battle at Across the Waves Bowls Club. He was known as T. O'Gara in the photo.

I don't know where to go from here, any help would be great.

How do you know he has died?

Nothing in Ryerson Index under either first name, but entries for Childers & Bundaberg papers are only for a few very recent years.

And do you know when he was born?
Parent names?
Where in Ireland was he born?

Thanks for replying.

He's my Great Grandfather and my Grandfather says he died about 20 years ago. But we have letters from him in 1992.

I don't know when or where he was born neither does my family but his first child was born in 1943 and his wife born in 1921. So I'm guessing he'd be born around the same time. I have sent off for his marriage certificate so when that arrives hopefully I'll have more information.

Hmm.
There are only 20 listings in the whitepages online for the surname.
Only 2 of those are in Queensland.
Presumably his children are still living so you can't put their names up on the board (RC policy).

the initials of the 2 in Queensland are B in Brisbane and J on the Gold Coast.

When you have made another post (like by replying to this) you can then use the PM system to send me the children's names if you'd like me to ring either of these people for you.

His children live in England. He moved to Australia on his own after his discharge from the Bristish Navy after divorcing his wife in England.

I think I'll have to talk to my Grandad again although he doesn't know much.

Best option might be to contact the club.
