Spelling may not have mattered to our Ancestors but unfortunately it does matter on SP.
The third child Elizabeth was born in 1827 to Anne Hutchison whereas the other two were born to Ann Hutcheson.Hence you need to search for the children with wildcards eg at least Ann* as the mother's name and broaden the search across Parishes if not Counties.Wherever possible use Soundex for the Surname.
Ancestry by the way is just as bad eg it gives different responses for  Elizabeth and Elisabeth.
The other difficulty with this family is where were they in 1841? :'(

True, but the point is that it isn't an 'error' if the spellings are different.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Angusg,

Sorry can't find a connection at the moment, do you have any details around David Walkers brothers & Sisters or parents?

We might be able to connect at there somewhere...

Thanks

Alexander Walker Slater in Alyth had four boys.
David(b1784)
James(b1786)
William(b1791)
John(b1794)
The last two had Grissel Ogilvy as their mother. The mother isn't given for the first two.
So it would appear the David and John appearing in this thread were brothers :)

I have done a search on Scotlands People and I can count four John Walkers born in 93, 94, 95 and 96 in Alyth, all to different parents, I have no idea of figuring out which one would be mine!

I think I would attach some importance to the fact that Alexander,David and John were all described as 'Slaters in Alyth' but, as you suggest, documenting the family trees of al the options properly, may give a more definitive answer.
