Hi Mad Auntie,

Welcome to Rootschat.

You need to do at least 3 posts on here before anyone can send you a mail.
You will have to look around or add something else on here.

Hi Eve D
I am afraid that the family who lived in Llancayo House in the 1891 Census are, it turns out, NOT my family as the parents do not match.

Am new to this, so may be going about it the wrong way... I think Lawrence and Laura Maggi may be the parents of my grandfather, Arthur Joseph Frederick Maggi, born 1896. He had a sister, Isabel, and I know there was an aunt Jess that my mother refers to. He lived in both Usk and Cardiff, I believe.

Re my last posting, I have recently learnt that Isabel was a half-sister (not a full sister) to my grandfather, Arthur, and that there was another half-sister, Kate.

Hi there Woelfin,

Welcome to Rootschat.

Havent seen this post since May so having to catch up on it.

If you look at my 2nd and 3rd post on here it would look like the
family I found looks alot like yours and the names you have put on.
Hope it is.  If you are new it does take time to get used
to what happens on here.  Just try reading through different
posts and you will get the gist of things.

If you need any help, just put it on here on Roots and we can
try and find out your information.  Have you joined any sites for
ancestry at all? If you have a large family it is sometimes better to
do so and get you started.

Happy hunting

Isobel Irene Maggi was my grandmother, although her father always called her Dina.   There was also another sister ( I think called Dorothy Kate) from Lawrence's first marriage.  When Lawrence's first wife died, the older sister was sent to live with a relative in Whitchurch,( could this be aunt Jess?) but Isobel never saw her again.  Arthur was Isobel's half brother. They were very close as children

The marriage between Lawrence and Laura resulted in separation, Isobel stayed with Lawrence and Arthur with his mother.  My mother remembered visiting the Blakemore family in Usk as a child.  One of the Blakemore's ( I think Lawrence's mother or father-in-law was the toll-keeper on the bridge over the river and lived in the toll-keeper's house opposite the bridge. My mother remembered staying in the Three Salmons hotel when visiting the family and continued to enjoy lunches there throughout her life.

Isobel married and had three children, Margherita,(b 1923) Patricia, (b.1927) and Grahame (b. 1935). In her early married life they lived in Kerne Bridge, near Ross, but then moved to Bridgend where her husband established a successful business.  Both daughters died in 2013.  Graham survives.  He spent his working life in Canada and now lives in France with his wife.

Hope this is helpful

Hi Woelfin

Arthur's other step-sister was called Sylvia and she was sent to live with an aunt in Pen-y-LAN, not Whitchurch, as I previously thought.

My grandmother Isobel, did try to make contact with her as an adult but was rebuffed by Sylvia who felt too much time had passed. Isobel was very saddened by that according to her son.  Curiously I remember being given a doll for Christmas around 1959, and asking Isobel to give her a name. The doll was named Sylvia and was in my possession until just a few weeks ago!

Apparently, my uncle, Isobel's son has a summary version of Sylvia's birth certificate.

Aunt Jess was on the Blakemore side of the family not the Maggi side as I previously thought.

Do let me know if this is helpful
