Hi Pels
Hello again cousin Ken...hope you're doing well !! ;)
Pels, I'm descended from this line through the younger Joseph, their 2nd son.

I see those middle census returns are still elusive!!
I tried searching all of the returns for all of their children myself and got nothing for these missing ones, especially 1871. I believe a chunk of the north east area returns were damaged by flood/fire at one time?? Not sure where I picked that up from but it's more likely than a shotgun wedding scenario as I believe in 1860s Jane Ann at 14/15 was well within the legal requirement for marriage even without parental consent. I think the legal age might have been as low as 12 for girls and 14 for boys?

I did find Jane Ann in service the the 1861 census for Guisborough in the household of Richard Aiskew ( farmer) with her age given as '16' . Her father and family are there too in Cleveland Street, as Ironstone Miner etc. From the birthdates of the children it looks as if they'd been there for about 3-4 years. Thus I deduce the Guisborough census of 1861 is maybe complete and that Joseph wasn't there?? ...I searched every kind of spelling of Sedgwick, and every male with a likely name/age through the whole lot and found nothing. He's not with his Bedale family though either though, but as they are all still there, you have to assume he'd moved away somewhere. I tried looking nationally for anyone of about the right age and found nothing.

I traced my own younger Joseph ( and thus the family) as best I could to try to pin them down and came up with this post their marriage at Guisborough:

1864 North Ormesby ( now middlesbrough)
1866 still there as Mary is born
1868 Trimdon/Sedgefield for Isaac
1870 Spennymoor for mary Jane
1872 I have an address for them...10 John Street Spennymoor as on August 1st that's on Mary's death certificate He dies in the Spennymoor pit in November.

1881 Pasture Houses, Eldon ( with Scruton G)(next door to the Ravens)
1885 Eldon Colliery ( from a book inscription of his with a date)
1886 Scruton death at South Durham Colliery, buried St Mark's Eldon
1888 Eldon on his marriage...my Joseph then lives in Shildon until his death
1891 Jane Ann at Darling Row. Eldon
1901 living with her daughter Margaret Peacock in Eldon
1901 she dies aged 56, address given as 21 Darlings Road
(her son John Thomas address given as Low Deanery Street, Eldon Lane)

Please do keep in touch!!
Best Wishes! x
