Ryan Family - Newport

Hi all,

I have recently bought my 2x Great Grandparents marriage certificate to find out their fathers names.

My 2x Great Grandmother was born Annie Ryan in 1881.  She is on the 1881 census (Just!).  She appears to be living with her mother Ann and siblings at 13 Union Street Newport.

What I'm trying to find out is why her father is not listed at the address with the family?  Ann Ryan (mother, born 1853) is listed at the top with what I assume is her daughter before marriage, Sarah Price, and other children John, Thomas and Elizabeth Ryan (and Annie).

Her father's name was Thomas Ryan and on Annie's marriage certificate is listed as a Dock Labourer.  I dont have a birth year for him but i know he married Ann in 1872 in Newport. 

Can anyone find him or help me locate them as a family? 

Also, why would he not be living with them when Annie is only a few months old?

Any info greatly appriciated

He's with them in 1891 in 6 George St. Born Newport c1849

Annie Ryan in 1881 her dad was my great grandad on my fathers side

Do you have any further information on the Ryan family that you could share

I cant seem to find her dad Thomas on the 1881 census, but on the 1871 census he was in the army based in Kent so i guess he might be abroad in 1881

The army records of a Thomas Ryan born Newport at around the right time are available on line, so you can trace his movements. But he appears to have married an Ellen in Ireland in 1873 and there were no children.
