Did I mention my slight obsession with old Manchester A-Zs?  ;D ;D

Here is a scan from a 1939-ish one which is old enough to be out of copyright. Shows Lodge St, Barwick St and surrounding streets. Then I'm going to post same section from a 1925-ish map - see what you think.

From 1925-ish atlas, with the edge of the page occurring most inconveniently!

Ooooh!  I love people with slight obsessions! :D  Ony slight ones though! ;D

I get it now, Abingdon St runs from Barwick St to Lodge St, and the litle bit in the middle is Sheridan St.  It looks as though the far end of Sheridan Street was lost and built on when they put Abingdon St in after 1925ish!

Thank You Soooooo much!  Now, I wonder if any of your Berry's are related to ours????

Tom.

My Berry line:
Elizabeth Berry b. 1871, m. David McGibbon 1889
Elizabeth's parents were William Berry(b. 1840) and Matilda Greenwood
William's parents were Philip Berry (b. around 1805) and Mary Kay
Philip was possibly the illegitimate son of Sally Berry, baptised 1805 at Newton Heath.  No idea what happened to Sally after this baptism, whether she died or married I haven't found anything definite.

All lived Newton Heath area, mostly along Oldham Road

Hmm,  doesn't look like its the same family, yet saying that, my g'father was born in North Bierley, Yorks, and siblings all over the place! Also family around Bromley Cross in Bolton, and then it goes further back to Irish roots.

Apparently, there is still a large Berry family in Failsworth, Oldham Road area, and has been for many years.

For another view of the same area:

Select for example the 1908 map from the list on the right and then click 'Enhanced Zoom'

WHITEHOUSE- Bromsgrove, WANE - Eccleston, TOWERS - Blackburn & Ribble Valley, COLLINGE - Rawtenstall, THOMAS - Penzance, Whitehaven, Haslingden.

Hi, the street you are looking for is definitely Sheridan st. I used to live at number  20 . It was at the top end. I went to St Augustine's school the on to the Albert Memorial. Then for our sins we moved to Heywood.
