Please try to date boy by photographer M Moss, West Maitland NSW COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 01 February 12 13:21 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone have a go at a possible date for the young boy?
I thought it may be quite old.
Also is that a stand behind him to keep him still?
I do not know what is on the chair. At first I thought it was a lizard.
I have two more photos by the same photographer M. Moss and the backs of the other two have a much fancier design and much better background in photos.
M Moss was a photographer in West Maitland NSW for many years.
Thank you
Terri

1860's for sure, his Bolero jacket was very popular during this decade & at the back is a posing stand as you say to keep his head still.

And the object on the chair looks a bit like the object in the hand of Man O in Blamking's tintype series, doesn't it, Jim?

You think it's some sort of cigar holder?

Thank you Jim
1860’s is old to me. It is nice to know about the Bolero jacket also the name posting stand.
It is great getting all these old photos dated and learning more about them.
I agree a bit young to smoke.
Thank you IgorStav.
I do not think the place looks fancy enough to even have a cigar holder.
The boy looked stubborn enough to want his lizard in the photo.

Thank you China
I allways like a bit of fun.
Regards

Terri

The lizard thing almost looks like a toy percussion pistol with the frizzen (the sticky-uppy thing) down. Were it not for the conspicuous absence of a trigger mechanism I'd say that's what it is :P

Perhaps it's a play gun made out of a stick?

Or a lizard, of course

Good idea about the pistol China and it looks like a boy thing and IgorStrav’s idea of a stick gun/pistol works for me.

Thank you
