Thanks borderman. It just so happens that I have written a letter to Hazel... it all started with a stop off in Chester en route back to London from Snowdonia where I saw the Glass House in Christleton and contacted the current owner who put me in touch. I can send you my information by e-mail.

Hi
I am currently writing a genealogy and history of the Witter families of the Halsall and Ormskirk area of Lancashire, with relatives in Cheshire. I was wondering if your Witter family involves that district.

In our Witter family, I have one Witter who was in Lancashire, namely, John Witter (born 1774 Christleton, died 1850 Toxteth, Lancs.), son of John Witter (1745-1792) [son of John Witter (1720-1768) and Mary Richardson (1718-1798)] and Elizabeth Roberts (1755-1820).

However, there may have been other grandchildren of John Witter (1720-1768) who ended up in Lancashire, possibly through sons Richard (1753-1820) or Samuel (1750-?).

Thanks for your post. I think this family is related to the Toxteth Witters. I have saved the information and if I get more details I will let you know.
Regards
Dennis

Thanks. Of course, while the Witters in those earlier generations that I mentioned did stay in Cheshire, some of them could have had descendants who later moved to Lancashire as the 19th century progressed.

True although Witters have been in both Lancashire and Cheshire for quite some time.
